Don’t Bring One Of Them Home

Mom and dad said date whoever you want but don’t bring one of them home

It’s your choice but not really so know we won’t tolerate one of them in your life

It does not matter if you are being loved and connected because our bigotry will be respected.

/

Our hate won’t let us deviate

Unconditional love until you violate our scripts

Do what you want because you are grown

We are warning, advising you not to bring one of them home.

/

If they listen without interrupting you

Help do chores equally regardless of mood

Rub your back without being asked

Have dinner waiting after work with ice water in a glass

We think your partner and lover is a keeper

As long as skin colors or whatever labels we choose match

Otherwise both of you can die alone

Don’t bring one of them here or our love goes away

It’s unconditional

Totally unconditional

Unless you bring one of them home.

/

Dad hit walls and mother put her head down and cried

Dad said ugly words then broke the TV

Mom wouldn’t hug tight after that night

Said they would hurt me in time because different characteristics mean trouble

However the most pain came from those who said I could do no wrong

Unconditional but it was really in agreement with the script for their home

/

Through slurs loved ones say hate won’t let them deviate

Unconditional love until you violate our scripts

Do what you want because you are grown

We are warning, advising you not to bring one of them home.

/

We are just looking out for you

Numbers show you’ll end up doomed

So why risk loosing us too

Of course we love until one of them hold you

/

We can’t understand past our fears and hate

Own experiences so if you want to enter our gates

Know our love is unconditional as long as you don’t bring one of them home.
